Our
Research
program spans the prostate
cancer challenge from screening
to the treatment of advanced
disease. We
are exploring the latest
methodologies for determining
the aggressiveness of the
cancers that go beyond the usual
Gleason scoring system. These
include biomarkers,
Prostat Px Analysis, PC3 expression, and
the use of sophisticated mapping
and imaging technologies. We are
also evaluating changes in diet
and lifestyle that may delay or
prevent the development of
cancer in the normal prostate
left after focal therapy is
completed.
We are
interested in the biology
of prostate cancer and have
participated in numerous
research activities that relate
to the 3D program.
Drs.
Thomas Flaig and
Mike Glodé, working with
Dr. Agarwal in the School of Pharmacy, headed the first trials
designed to see whether extracts
of Milk Thistle could be used to
treat or prevent prostate
cancer. If all known cancer is
removed/destroyed by our 3D
technology, we will continue to
develop and do research on ways
that could prevent new cancers
from arising in the prostatic
tissue that is still present.
These might include studies of
other natural products such as
grape seed extract or legumes.
We are also leaders in
developing vaccines against
prostate cancer that could be
beneficial in stopping the
disease before it develops. |
